Can you ask AI questions about your e-commerce numbers?

Last updated: 27 October 2026

Yes, if the AI does not calculate itself. A language model that adds up or copies amounts can give a number that looks right and is not. In Sento the model chooses a calculation, the database calculates, and every amount in the answer is a reference to that result. You ask your question in plain language and read the answer with the calculation and the source beside it.

How it works

  1. You ask your question in plain language. For example which three products had the lowest margin last month. You do not have to build a report.
  2. The model chooses a calculation. Which figures, over which period, with which comparison, from a fixed list in which the definition of every figure is set.
  3. The database calculates. In whole cents, on your own data, and not in the language model.
  4. Every amount refers to the result. An amount or percentage the model would type itself does not appear: it is marked as not traceable, without its value.
  5. You click through to the source. Where a click-through exists and your permissions allow it, an amount opens the lines that were counted. Otherwise you see which source it came from.

Where it goes wrong without these rules

Each rule below exists because otherwise a believable wrong number appears.

Two revenues for the same month. One report counts all order lines, another only lines with an order number on the report date. Ask for “the revenue” without an agreement and you get one or the other. Sento uses one scope per calculation, and names the difference instead of hiding it.

Adding what does not add up. A total plus its own parts, averages added together, amounts with and without VAT mixed, or invoiced and estimated costs together. Sento refuses those calculations.

Growth against half a period. Compare this month with a previous period whose data is only partly in, and you get a growth percentage that means nothing. Sento then gives no number, but says why not.

Empty as zero. If data is missing, the outcome is unknown, not zero. A calculation on something unknown stays unknown.

Agreements about your data

  • No training. Your data is never used to train AI models.
  • Only what you may see. The AI chat works within your session and only reads from the systems you have access to.
  • Only your conversations. Your conversations are visible only to you and are deleted 90 days after the last message.
  • Everything in the privacy statement. Which data goes to which processor, and where that processor is based, is in the privacy statement.

Frequently asked questions

Does the AI calculate itself?

No. The model chooses which calculation is needed; the database runs it. Adding, dividing and comparing happen in whole cents on stored results, and a margin percentage comes from the same function as on the screen.

Can the AI answer every question?

No. It works with a fixed list of calculations. If your question falls outside it, it says so and suggests what is possible, instead of making up an answer.

Is my data used to train AI models?

No. Your data is never used to train AI models.

Who sees my conversations, and how long are they kept?

Only you. Not even an administrator of your own organisation reads them. A conversation is deleted 90 days after the last message.
